This beach is also known as the promenade beach and the coastline of this beach is around 1.5 kms long. This beach is very famous among the locals for their morning jogs or the evening strolls. The sea waters of this beach are very tough and unfortunately one cannot swim or indulge in any water sports activities here. The entire beach is clustered with square shaped black rocks all along its coastline. A concrete pathway has been laid to walk along the coastline, right next to the tetrapod rocks. due to presence of these rocks, this beach is popularly known as the rock beach. The best months to visit the rock beach are from October to February and early mornings or the late evenings are the best times of the day to visit this beach. There are numerous cafes, restaurants and pubs lined up along this beach overlooking the sea that serve various cuisines including French, Indian, Arabic and Chinese. some of the them even have live band performances that go on till late midnight. There are some shopping boutiques that sell souvenirs and home décors. Many of the government buildings are also lined up along this beach including the secretariat of Pondicherry. Some of the famous hotels are also built around this beach that provide several stay-at options for foreigners and local travelers. One may also encounter numerous hawkers and vendors selling street style snacks, balloons, neon bands among the others. Vehicle entry is totally banned on this beach road and is only used by the pedestrians the whole day.
