20개국, 우한에 전세기 보내 ‘자국민 대탈출 Similar evac operations are being planned and carried out by many other countries as well. Some 20 nations are working to bring back their citizens from Wuhan. Kim Mok-yeon sheds light on those efforts. Japan brought back a total of 416 citizens from Wuhan through two separate flights on Wednesday and Thursday. Among the first batch, three people have tested positive for the coronavirus, with two of them testing positive without showing any symptoms. More than a dozen of the Japanese evacuees felt unwell so they've been sent to a medical facility. Japanese media reported that the other evacuees are being quarantined in a state designated facility for around two weeks, but two of them went home after refusing to get tested. Expressing regret, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that there is no legally binding power to force them to get tested, but vowed to receive a signature of approval from the passengers on their next flights. The United States also brought home 195 American citizens through a government chartered plane which flew from Wuhan to California on Wednesday local time. The passengers were tested several times before departure, and upon arrival, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cleared them of the virus. Though they are not under federal quarantine, the passengers will voluntarily be screened for any signs of the illness at the March Air Reserve Base for three days. Those who wish to leave after that period can do so, but they will continue to be monitored by local and state health officials for two weeks. Meanwhile, France plans to send a series of planes to Wuhan from Thursday local time to bring back some 800 nationals this week. Symptom-free nationals will be evacuated in the first flight followed by those with symptoms in the next flights. Germany will also send military planes on Thursday and Friday to bring back 90 citizens from Wuhan. The U.K. is in the process of rescheduling its flight, which was scheduled to bring back some 200 British nationals on Thursday, after the relevant permission from Chinese authorities did not come through. A total of around 20 nations including New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia have also announced plans to bring home their nationals from Wuhan, with most of them planning to quarantine the evacuees for as long as 14 days.
