The University of Otago today announced an agreement with the University of Medicine in Myanmar, the country also known as Burma. The agreement will mean collaboration on research and training in areas including infectious diseases and medical microbiology. Myanmar is the second largest country in Southeast Asia and home to more than 60 million people. It was under military control since a coup d'etat in 1962. But the country has seen better foreign relations since the military began relinquishing control, and prominent human rights activist, Aung San Suu Kyi, was released. Centre for International Health Co-Director Professor John Crump is here to tell us what the relationship is all about.
