Hiking to Big Almaty Lake | The Nature of Kazakhstan is Breathtaking

Kazakhstan has been the gift that keeps on giving. A short drive away from the city center of Almaty, one will find this breathtaking turquoise lake, surrounded by wildflowers and mountainous landscapes. It is a place of pure magic, one of the most peaceful and tranquil places I've ever visited. One simply does not run out of things to do in Almaty, and this city keeps surprising me every day. It's easy to order a taxi all the way to the trailhead, or take a public bus to the entrance of the national park and then get a short taxi from there to the trailhead. All in all, this short but steep hike took about two hours to reach the Big Almaty Lake, although plan to spend an hour or two up there. I hiked down to the lake's waters, had lunch with a stunning view, and wandered along some side trails before heading back down.
