Women Inspiring Women In The NYPD

Hundreds of uniformed and civilian women within the ranks of the NYPD participated in a day-long women’s conference at the police academy in College Point, Queens on Wednesday. The second women’s conference held by the NYPD, this year’s theme was “Women Inspiring Women.” “We have many great career paths in the NYPD, both for uniformed and civilian members and it’s important that we make sure women are well represented everywhere in this job,” said Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill. Participants listened to various inspirational speakers, networked with other women, and received resources from community-based vendors. The keynote speaker was Kimberly Hatchett, Executive Director at Morgan Stanley and other guest speakers included Gayle King, CBS anchor; actress Rachel McPhee; and Chief Janeé Harteau of the Minneapolis Police Department. Executive members of the Department also spoke during the conference. This included Chief of Community Affairs Joanne Jaffe, Chief of Personnel Diana Pizuti, and Assistant Chief Kim Royster, Executive Officer of the Community Affairs Bureau. These speakers shared information on a variety of topics including opportunities the Department provides for its members. “The women of the NYPD were afforded an opportunity to listen to and learn from dynamic presenters who took time from their busy schedules to join us,” said Deputy Commissioner of Administration Cathleen Perez. “We are very grateful to all who presented and to those who worked tirelessly to make this event so successful.”
