At 1,330 ft. elevation above sea level, Helm Crag is one of Lakeland's lesser mountains and fells but it's location in the centre of the National Park and its summit which is famous for its rocky outcrops that resemble figures of a lion and a lamb have made it one of the most famous and frequented mountains in Lakeland. This hike was, for me, one of the very best I've done in Lakeland in recent years and one which paid a fine reward for my making the effort to dig myself out of bed in the cold, damp darkness of a British winter morning.
