Black Hill peaks the northern end of the Cat’s Back Ridge. This ridge lies just east of Hey Bluff and the Offa’s Dyke Ridge in the Brecon Beacon National park. We found our way up from the Black Hill picnic carpark at the southern tip of the ridge. Southern England does not technically include Herefordshire, I know now that I have look at maps since the trip. While I was there though, and pondered this with the others, I was curious to think that Hereford nearby is very much south of Birmingham. Looking at the map since our return it’s clear that Bandbury and Milton Keynes are on the same sort of latitude as Hereford, and therefore on a basic north/south cut of the map I then figured, simplistically that since “the Midlands” was north of these other two towns, then Hereford was not in the Midlands and therefor was part of southern England. Technically High Willhays, a Tor in Dartmoor, is the highest peak in Southern England but at 621m is not as high as Black Hill here. But, rightly so, Herefordshire is in the West Midlands and so, no, Black Hill is not technically in the south of England. I’m out today with @hedleythorne and meet up with a friend of his, Neil. Hedley also shares content on his @HillsandHillforts channel. My thanks again go to Hedley Thorne for sharing his drone clips for me to used in my video here. Shout-out to Mark of @WyeExplorer. He knows the Wye Valley and South Wales so well and has his YT channel dedicated to treks and walks around the area. He runs the website https://www.wyeexplorer.co.uk/ as well. Cheers Mark :) Please consider SUBSCRIBING to my channel, if you haven’t done so yet. Thanks for watching, and, bye for now.
