A 23-year-old man has died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash on Russell Avenue on Wednesday night, according to the Akron Police Department. Officers responded around 10:35 p.m. on March 4 to the intersection of Russell Avenue and Laurel Avenue for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, police found the man with serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Richard Williams. Police say the driver involved in the crash fled the scene. Investigators believe the vehicle may be a white or silver 2021–2025 Kia, possibly a Sportage, that may have damage to the passenger-side headlight, mirror, hood and possibly the windshield. Akron Police Lt. Michael Murphy said investigators are still working to confirm details about the vehicle involved. “We were able to gather from some witnesses that there was possibly a white Kia, somewhere between 2021 and 2025, possibly a Sportage. However, we're not ruling out the possibility of an additional vehicle or another description involved in this incident,” Murphy said. Police say investigators are now reviewing surveillance video in the area to help identify the vehicle and driver responsible. “The city of Akron has a number of flat cameras, and we utilize that technology. We'll also check into Ring doorbell camera footage and other cameras in the area to see if anything captured the incident,” Murphy said. Murphy emphasized the importance of drivers staying at the scene after a crash. Read: https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/loc...
