The proud city and its rulers are judged, flattened, and turned to dust beneath the steps of the needy. The wicked fail to honor Yahweh, even when shown mercy, but God’s zeal rises in fire to humble His enemies. The turning point reveals the biblical hope of resurrection: the righteous dead awaken from the dirt, startled from slumber, cast out by the earth itself, because death is reversed by God’s power, not human strength. The prophecy ends with the Lord truly leaving His place to judge the earth, exposing the blood of the slain, and establishing justice and restored life in Judah for those raised to sing.
