It's an incredibly cold January 8 2017, but don't let that stop you from joining us on this 'slight' odyssey! Fantastic mountain snow scenery! We begin in Ellicott City, where there are a few folks out despite the bitter cold. Then west on Interstate 70 (and US 340) to the railroad town of Brunswick, where we catch a couple locos being ferried. We would have stayed for more, but nothing else showed up despite an almost 45 min wait! But-good we didn’t stay! This left us enough daylight to capture some snow scenes on Catoctin and South Mountains. We’ll pass through Burkittsville, the site of the opening scenes for the 1999 flick The Blair Witch Project (anybody out there remember that?). FYI only the opening scenes of the movie were shot there...NOT the rest!! We then go on to the hamlets of Middletown and Myersville, and get more great snow scenery along the way. We’ll descend South Mountain to the town of Boonsboro, where we use the original National Pike east to Interstate 70. Also-glimpses of the Frederick to Hagerstown streetcar line (abandoned in the 1930s). Until I can resume the full-fledged day odyssies, enjoy this!
