#SewQuaint In this tutorial, I’m showing you how to sew a curved waistband. You will also learn how to draft a pattern for it. 🔆 Get pattern/drafting rulers here: https://amzn.to/3Kry7xs 🔆 Get a good beginner sewing machine here: https://amzn.to/44w8bs4 🔆 Get other sewing tools here: https://amzn.to/3MAT8rD INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Measure the waist of the pants, shorts or skirt you want to create the curved waistband for + 1/2” allowance on both sides. 2. Divide this measurement by 2 and use it to draw a rectangle. The length should be 3”. This ruler is linked in my description below. 3. Find the halfway point of this rectangle and make a mark. Measure and mark 5/8” away from those marks. Connect them. Note: The left side of this pattern will become the front of the waistband and the right side of this pattern will become the back of the waistband. 5. On the left side, draw an extended line 3” long. 6. Connect it to the line in the middle. 7. Find the halfway point on both lines and make a mark. 8. Measure and mark 3/16” inwards from this line and 3/16” outwards from this line. 9. Use a French curve to create a subtle curve that blends the lines. 11. With your ruler at a right angle with the new lines, draw a straight line. 12. Measure your waistband to make sure it adds up to the initial measurement. It’s okay if it’s a little bit more. 13. Cut this from the pattern paper and label well. 14. Cut two pieces right sides together from your desired fabric and two pieces of fusible interfacing. 15. Press them to the wrong side of the waistband pieces. 16. Put the waistband pieces right sides together and sew along the top edge with a 1/2” allowance. 17. Top stitch the allowance to one side. That is now the wrong side of the waistband. 18. Fold the raw edge of the wrong side inwards by 1/2” and press it flat. 19. Trim away 1/4” from the remaining side. 20. Fold the waistband in half and mark the centre with a notch, chalk or pin. 21. Fold the waistline of the skirt, shorts or pants in half and mark the centre in the same way. 22. Match the centre of both pieces right sides together, pin the centre then pin out to both ends. 23. Sew with a 1/2” allowance. 24. Fold the waistband right sides together in the opposite direction and stitch it. 25. Cut away the excess in the corner of the waistband, turn it over to the right side and stitch in the ditch to complete it. Leave your questions in the comments!
