SUMMARY: Dr. Britt will address dementia, a significant society and public health concern, discuss strategies to tackle health disparities and explore ways to slow its progression. Her presentation will delve into her research, including her dissertation and postdoctoral work, which examines the association of spiritual and religious practices with dementia progression symptoms. Furthermore, she will share insights from a recent longitudinal study on how religiosity may contribute to cognitive health through reduction of systemic inflammation. SPEAKER: Dr. Katherine Britt received her Ph.D. in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin in 2022 and is currently a T32 Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. A nurse for over two decades, her clinical expertise spans patient and family care particularly focused on older adults with cognitive impairment and their caregivers. Her research, presented at international and national conferences and published in journals, focuses on resilience factors such as spirituality and religious practices to mitigate decline in older adults with MCI and AD/ADRD. Dr. Britt aims to design culturally inclusive spiritual interventions to slow cognitive decline in diverse populations and decrease cognitive disparities. She specializes in secondary data analysis and qualitative methods, examining spirituality, religion, and cognitive and mental health in older adults and caregivers affected by AD/ADRD.
