The signs and symptoms of bipolar 2 disorder were present in my life prior to my diagnosis but I ignored them. Why? I was unaware that these were symptoms of a mental illness. Mental health was never discussed in my school, with friends or brought up in my surroundings. So when the symptoms and signs of bipolar disorder surfaced, I thought they would eventually go away. The negative image we have of mental illness causes many people, like me, to ignore these signs of bipolar disorder that indicate there may be a problem.
