Day 1/2 – Traditional Dowry Ceremony (Rabai Culture) This video captures the events of Day 1 (7th November 2025) of my two-day traditional dowry (bride price) payment ceremony, which was held in Mazeras, Mombasa on 7th and 8th November 2025. According to Rabai cultural traditions, the first day of the ceremony is dedicated strictly to the traditional customs and formal processes that unite the two families. It is a significant cultural event where elders, family representatives, and relatives gather to formally witness and guide the marriage process in accordance with Rabai heritage. During this first day, several important traditional activities take place: 1. Negotiation of the Bride Price – Elders and family representatives from both sides engage in respectful negotiations to agree on the dowry, symbolizing appreciation and honor to the bride’s family. 2. Payment of the Bride Price – Once an agreement is reached, the agreed dowry is formally presented to the bride’s family. This step officially confirms the union between the two families. 3. Traditional Rabai Processions – Cultural processions are conducted in accordance with Rabai traditions. These include symbolic movements, traditional songs, and customs that celebrate the bride and her family’s heritage. 4. Parental and Elders’ Blessings – The bride's parents give their blessings to the couple. These blessings are an important spiritual and cultural moment, signifying acceptance, guidance, and goodwill for the couple’s future. The first day is deeply rooted in tradition, respect, and family unity, setting the foundation for the celebrations that follow on the second day. This video highlights some of the key moments and cultural practices that made the day memorable and meaningful for everyone involved. Thank you
