Mid shot Tang Wei talking to the press TANG WEI - BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHT Famous for her role in director Ang Lee''s controversial "Lust, Caution," Chinese actress Tang Wei visited Hong Kong on Wednesday (15 April 2010) for a fashion event attended by many of her fans. Lee catapulted the little known Wei to super-stardom by casting her in his 2007 movie as a student activist who seduces a Japanese-allied Chinese intelligence chief in World War II-era Shanghai. The film, which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, contained graphic sex scenes with full-frontal nudity. Lee removed around seven minutes worth of footage from the film, allowing it to be shown in China. However, Tang Wei was unofficially blacklisted by Beijing authorities who saw her as glorifying unpatriotic behavior through her role. Her latest project, Hong Kong director Ivy Ho''s "Crossing Hennessy," marks a comeback of sorts. The romantic comedy sees Wei star opposite Jacky Cheung, playing a girl-next-door type forced on a blind date with a middle aged man by her relatives. The Hennessy of the title refers to Hennessy Road, the main street of Hong Kong''s Wan Chai District. The 30-year-old actress can soon be seen in "Late Autumn" - co-starring with Korean heartthrob Hyun Bin.
