Changan Automobile Evolution (1862 - 2025) Changan Automobile, one of China's oldest and most prominent automotive manufacturers, traces its roots back to 1862. The transition to automobile manufacturing began in 1959 when the factory was repurposed to produce the Changjiang Type 46 jeep, marking China's first production vehicle. In 1984, Changan entered a significant phase of transformation by signing a technical trade cooperation agreement with Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation. This partnership led to the development of mini vehicles and engines, marking a pivotal step in the company's evolution. In the 2000s, Changan expanded through strategic joint ventures with global automakers. In 2001, it partnered with Ford to produce Ford-branded cars in China, including the popular Ford Focus. By 2006, the joint venture expanded to include Mazda, forming Changan-Ford-Mazda. Additionally, in 2009, Changan acquired two domestic automakers, Hafei and Changhe, further solidifying its position in the Chinese automotive industry. Today, Changan operates 14 manufacturing bases and 34 plants worldwide. It produces vehicles under its own brands, such as Changan, Deepal, Avatr, and Kaicene, as well as through joint ventures like Changan Ford and Changan Mazda. In 2021, the cumulative sales of Changan's self-owned brand exceeded 20 million units.
