𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐘 𝐍𝐘𝐄: CONNECTING MISSED HISTORY 🇧🇹 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒚𝒖𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑮𝒖𝒓𝒖𝒔 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝑪𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑩𝒉𝒖𝒕𝒂𝒏 🔱Dovan is a hidden Baeyul that has not been explored in Bhutan. Guru Rinpoche took this route when he visited Bumthang at the invitation of Sindu Raja. Guru at that time was meditating in the caves of Nepal. He came via India and entered Bhutan from a place called Shompangkha Gewog, passing through Dekiling reaching Jigmecholing, and eventually taking the Nabji Korphu route in Trongsa. Reached. 🔱Whilst Guru was making his journey towards Bumthang it's said that the great master meditated in Retey Nye which was previously known as Mongoen Drak Pemai Baeyul, under Jigmecholing Gewog. 🔱This has been a neglected piece of history and will be a connecting link to the missing dots for the history of how Buddhism came into the foothills of Bhutan. The great master Padmasambhava has blessed the place. Today at the sacred site of Guru Rinpoche there are many miraculous relics and religious symbols that can be found on the site, on the rocks and walls of caves Guru Rinpoche meditated. 🔱The center of the sacred site is a cave, considered to be Guru Rinpoche’s main meditation place. It also has a place where people could sneak in through a small opening inside the cave to collect soil to make tsa tsa, a miniature stupa. 🔱Surrounding the caves are the imprints of different wild animals such as tigers, elephants, and a snake subdued by Guru Rinpoche. Other relics include Guru’s footprint, a three-edged ritual effigy, stoves carved out of rocks, Drubchu ( holy water ), and a secret opening inside the cave known as khandroi sanglam (the secret door). 🔱There is also a place where Guru Rinpoche is believed to have locked up all the precious stones and residents said the key to open the hidden treasures is imprinted on a rock with several cross symbols. 🔱The reason why the site remained unknown is that the locals themselves didn’t know the significance and hence had no reverence for the site as nye until a couple of years ago when Gangtey Trulku and other vulnerable Khenpos recognized it was Guru Nye according to Peling Nyeyig. 🔱According to the caretaker and guide of Nye Jangchub, he shared that there are still numerous sites and relics that need to be discovered from the Nye site. Meanwhile, local people from Gelephu and around who have heard through word of mouth are visiting the place.
