Have you ever wished you could walk across the Cumberland River? Well on January 26, 1940, it froze so hard that Nashvillians could walk across it. On October 4, 1939, Aviation Corp. announced that it would build a $1 million factory adjacent to the Nashville airport and employ one thousand workers under its Stinson division. When the Nashville plant opened, the price tag was upwards of $9 million and the factory employed over seven thousand workers instead of the Stinson division, it was part of the Vultee division.
