In this video we draw upon Mike Mentzer’s writings on how best to develop the shoulder muscles. His top exercises for the shoulders, along with the ideal set and repetition scheme, are presented. We even examine an old pre-exhaust set that Mike employed during his competitive years, which featured Lateral Raises as the isolation exercise, and then going immediately to the Press Behind Neck. The Press Behind Neck exercise has come under a lot of fire over the past decade, with many in the industry believing it is a dangerous movement. We examine the evidence for this from research studies in order to see what science has to say about it. Not that this pre-exhaustion cycle is by any means mandatory, nor do you even need to try it, as Mike discarded the press Behind Neck exercise from his Ideal Routine. Interestingly, however, he did incorporate it into his first version of the Consolidated Program that appeared in his book “Heavy Duty II: Mind and Body.” Have a look and see what you think.
