Dwaniro Diary Farmer's Cooperative Unit, in Kiboga District, is one of the beneficiaries of the adoption of renewable energy, particularly Solar Energy in Dairy farming. ACODE, in partnership with Heifer International Uganda and supported by Mott Foundation, had an interview with Mr Johnson Kwesigabo, Chairman of Dwaniro Farmers Diary, to share his experience in using solar energies in the agricultural value chain (best practices, success stories, challenges, regrets) and particularly in Dairy farming. Issues discussed included; What it takes for a farmer to integrate PUSE in his or her activities in the agricultural value chain either as an individual or under a farmers’ cooperative society; Barriers to renewable energy adoption for Ugandan farmers; The potential for renewable energy to improve farmer livelihoods and increase agricultural productivity; The most effective strategies for promoting renewable energy adoption among farmers; Understanding Uganda's Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer Programme (UgIFT))and how it supports farmers through its micro-scale irrigation component; How government (through the MEMD and MAAIF) has supported him or his cooperative society in integrating PUSE in the agricultural value chain; and his final appeal to ACODE and Heifer International in their advocacy and implementation campaigns of promoting PUSE in the agricultural value chain in your district.
