This is our extraordinary journey through Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana's wilderness that promises and delivers safari adventures beyond imagination. Our experience began with an incredible stroke of luck - spotting not one, but three magnificent cheetahs during our drive to the lodge where we were going to stay at. This was just in the first hour of our drive! This set the tone for what would become an unforgettable safari experience. Spanning an impressive 42,000 hectares within the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, Mashatu Game Reserve sits at the spectacular confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe Rivers. Known as the "Land of Giants," this pristine wilderness hosts Africa's largest elephant herds on private land, alongside a diverse array of wildlife including lions, leopards, and countless other species. The landscape itself is breathtaking - a perfect blend of wide-open plains, lush riverine forests, and ancient rocky ridges that create a photographer's paradise. It is BIG CAT COUNTRY! Nestled within this wild paradise, Tuli Safari Lodge exceeded all expectations as our luxury base camp. The lodge perfectly balances authentic African charm with modern comforts. Each room is spaciously designed and elegantly appointed, offering stunning views of the surrounding wilderness. One of the lodge's most striking features is its secluded swimming pool, masterfully integrated into natural rock formations. As evening falls, guests can retreat to the romantic stargazing deck, perfect for unwinding under the African night sky. Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the private hide on the grounds, offering intimate viewing opportunities, while those seeking adventure can explore the walking trails that wind through the lodge's territory. During our stay, we encountered an incredible variety of wildlife that exceeded our expectations. While our memorable cheetah sighting set an early high bar, the adventures that followed were equally impressive. We stood in awe watching enormous herds of elephants moving through their natural habitat. The big cat sightings continued throughout our stay, each encounter more thrilling than the last. Adding to the magic were the fascinating smaller creatures we encountered, each playing their crucial role in this complex ecosystem.
