Is Edo Language Dying? The Controversial Removal From School Curriculum Part One No doubts that Edo language has suffered a setback and decline in recent years, it's hardly spoken in homes where parents are Edo. The trend has been on over the years. Some adduced this trend to have been caused by neglect by parents who prefer to teach them English language. Most homes in Edo State speaks English language as their choice of language communication at home. The government is not helping matters on the other hand as Edo language is hardly taught in schools. This has led to the recent prediction by UNESCO that Edo language would go into extinction by 2050. To further support the prediction by UNESCO, the Federal Ministry of Education has removed local languages including Edo language from school curriculum. This has further heightened the fear by Edo language teachers across Edo State to really how Edo can be brought back to school.
