Obverse of the coin features the "Second Crowned Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II" facing right. She is wearing the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" tiara. The legend is present around her. Translation of the Latin script on obverse is "Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith". Designer of the obverse was "Arnold Machin". Reverse of the coin shows a crowned portcullis with chains. It is an adaptation of the Badge of Henry VII which is now the Badge of the Palace of Westminster. The face value is also engraved on the reverse. It is "NEW PENNY, 1". Designer of the reverse was "Christopher Ironside". This coin was a standard circulation coin. Such coins were issued from 1971 to 1981. This coin is from year 1971. The metal composition of this coin is Bronze (97% Cu, 2.5% Zn, 0.5% Sn). Weight is 3.56 gram.
