Going South From Auckland to The Milford Sounds .

This is a Slow TV Program that was screened on Good Friday 2019 . It starts in the Old Auckland railway station , now called the Strand , going via Auckland's Eastern Line before connecting with the NIMT and then heads to Wellington on the Northern Explorer . Then across the Cook Strait to Picton on the Interislander Aratere , 0:43:22 And then from Picton to Christchurch on the Coastal Pacific , 0:59:50 Then from Christchurch to Greymouth on the Trans Alpine , 01:19:56 And finally to Milford Sound by road and then ferry to the Tasman Sea . 01:49:20 This was cut down from around 40hrs of footage to a 3hr program , they also created a 12hr program also . At the 16:04 mark are the ex Auckland suburban fleet of BR MkII carriages (SA/SD)which were withdrawn from service when the network was electrified in 2015 . They were originally going to be sold to Mozambique but the deal fell through and they have been laid up ever since . Also amongst those that are there are 4 ex Sydney carriages (SX). Since then 31 have gone to Dunedin to be converted into a hotel style rail service around the North and South Islands . 6 were bought by Kiwi Rail and converted into crew/baggage cars to be used on their Great Sights rail journeys and 11 SA/SD carriages are under going upgrade for the new Hamilton - Auckland service due to start in mid 2020 .
