I spent a night in a glamping “village” in the countryside of Chiba, Japan. A 200-year-old farmhouse, Nordic-style tents… and the villagers are 15 rescued cats! 🐈 This place is called Washinmura, a retreat where 15 cats live freely, along with dogs, goats, and other animals. Surrounded by forests and satoyama landscapes, the cats wander in and out of the tents and old house, napping, strolling through the woods, or gathering by the fire. The highlight of my stay was a morning walk in the forest with the cats. Playful yet calm, they kept just the right distance— sharing the moment in such a gentle, beautiful way. I stayed in a Nordic tent, where the sounds and fresh air of the forest made me feel as if I was sleeping outdoors.
