First ever State of Origin game! QLD Maroons v NSW Blues Game 3 decider at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane

G'day all! Clewsos here - Rich, Hay, Georgia & Samuel. In this episode, Rich was extremely lucky to be invited to a much coveted State of Origin game. For those of you that are not aware, The State of Origin is an annual best-of-3 rugby league series between 2 Australian state representative sides, The Queensland Maroons & The New South Wales Blues. Referred to as “Australian sport's greatest rivalry”, the State of Origin series is one of Australia's premier sporting events, attracting huge television audiences and usually selling out the stadiums in which the games are played. It is regularly described as the pinnacle of rugby league, inclusive of comparisons with international competitions. Players are selected to represent the Australian state in which they played their first senior rugby league game (either high school or local senior club). The nature of the contest often means that players who are usually teammates for their NRL sides come up against each other for this mid-season event. With the QLD Maroons winning Game 1 10-38 in the Blues' back yard (Sydney) and then NSW Blues winning Game 2 38-18 at the neutral venue in Melbourne, the Game 3 decider in QLD was set to be a cracker! With a full house it was clear from the off both sides were going to defend for their lives, which they did, keeping the score to 0-0 with almost a full half played. QLD managed to get a penalty and 2-points on the board just before the halftime whistle. Sadly for the Maroons, the NSW Blues managed to get the upper hand in the second half and ran out winners 4-14, in a very cagey/firey affair. With Rich having now spent more time living in QLD than NSW he went for the Maroons - perhaps that's why they lost, LOL! Needless to say, Rich was extremely grateful for the opportunity to attend, such an awesome experience, just a shame the result didn't go the right way! We hope you enjoy!
