One of the long-term impacts observed during the COVID-19 pandemic stems from patients undergoing a tracheotomy and requiring assisted breathing for an extended period of time. Dr. Ian Makey says patients intubated for weeks may find themselves to be candidates for tracheal resection and reconstructive surgery.
