On July 3-5, I set out on a biking adventure up the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath. Starting at the lower end of the canal in Georgetown (DC), I rode up the towpath to just past its midway point at milepost 93, then made my way back. The total trip (including riding to/from my apartment) was 202.82 miles long over 3 days. For Day 1 of my trip along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal, I headed to Georgetown with my bike trailer loaded with camping gear, food, and clothing, and started my journey. I visited places like Great Falls, Seneca Creek Aqueduct, and Point of Rocks before eventually making it to my campsite (Bald Eagle Hiker Biker Campsite, milepost 50.3). Day 2, Independence Day, started out with a rainstorm, so I had to pack up my stuff in the rain with some shelter provided by the trees. My destination was the halfway point of the C&O Canal, and then I would turn around to head toward my next campsite. I visited Brunswick (no convenience store), the Big Slackwater section of the Potomac River, the halfway point of the C&O Canal, and stopped in Shepherdstown for food before reaching my campsite (Huckleberry Hill Hiker Biker Campsite, milepost 62.9). I was able to see some fireworks from across the Potomac River from local residents along with the tops of some from local towns, and I definitely heard them throughout the night. Day 3 was the final day of my trip where I would return home. After biking so many miles, my whole body was getting tired, but I was at least able to get more rest than the previous night's 14 train interrupted sleep. I visited Harpers Ferry (WV), Point of Rocks (MD) again for more delicious food, the Dickerson Generating Station, the Blockshouse Point cliffs, and more before returning to Georgetown and eventually my home. With about 45 miles left in the trip, one of my trailer's wheels got a flat that could not be fixed, leaving me to stop every 4 miles to repump it. I was also getting exhausted, so at each stop I would drink water and gatorade to replenish my energy reserves which were running low. My goal was to return in time to see the World Cup championship, but I was unable. It's okay, I had a really great experience as it pushed me to my limits while allowing me to meet a lot of cool people, experience a lot of pretty sights, and learn a lot of history about the are All photos were taken by me with my Pentax WG-3 camera and iPhone 4S on July 3-5, 2015.
