This short documentary about the Hémevez Massacre presents a brief overview of the details related to the temporary burial of the bodies of 7 paratroopers from HQ Co. of the 1st Battalion/507th Parachute Infantry Regiment/82nd Airborne Division who were murdered by German soldiers from the 709th Static Division during the morning of Tuesday, June 6, 1944. Those troopers were: PFC Daniel B. TILLMAN, PVT Robert G. WATSON, PVT Anthony J. HITZTALER, PVT Robert E. WERNER, PVT Delmar C. Mc ELHANEY, PVT Andrew W. KLING & PFC Elsworth M. HECK. The body of an eighth paratrooper from C Co./507th Parachute Infantry - PVT John KATONA - was found at the end of the carriage road leading to Chateau d'Hémevez the following morning & he was buried in a single grave near the others during the afternoon of June 7th. The Inspector General Division of the U.S. 1st Army conducted an investigation & exhumation at Hémevez on Thursday, June 22, 1944 & it was filmed by a motion picture camera operator from the 165th Signal Photographic Company. Although the footage is graphic, it is included in this short documentary in the interest of preserving the memory of eight U.S. paratroopers who came to Normandy during the summer of 1944 & lost their lives there.
