Shivamogga: The Sunni Jamiat Ulama Committee, Shivamogga (Registered), along with Sunni Jamia Masjid, Gandhi Bazaar, has submitted a memorandum to the President of India demanding strict legal action against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The memorandum states that India’s true strength lies in its Ganga-Jamuni culture, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, and protecting these values is a constitutional responsibility of the state. This demand comes in the backdrop of a controversial incident in Patna during an official ceremony at the Bihar Chief Minister’s office, where appointment letters were being distributed to newly selected AYUSH doctors. During the event, Nitish Kumar is accused of pulling the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor while handing over her appointment letter. The video of the incident went viral on social media, triggering nationwide outrage. Strong reactions were seen across social, political, and especially Muslim communities, with critics stating that the act hurt the dignity and religious sentiments of Muslim women. Sources say the Supreme Court Bar Council has also strongly criticized the incident. Several social organizations and legal experts have termed the act a clear violation of the Muslim woman doctor’s personal autonomy and religious freedom, and against the constitutional principles of equality and non-discrimination. The Sunni Jamiat Ulama Committee, Shivamogga, has urged the President of India to take serious note of the matter, protect constitutional values, initiate strict legal action against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and remove him from office. The committee expressed hope that justice will be ensured through presidential intervention. On this occasion, Committee President Sitar Beg Nizami, Secretary Ejaz Ahmed, Aftab Parvez, Basha, Muzammil, Mohammed Ziaullah, and others were present.
