Nanomedicine: from cancer to COVID-19 | UCL Medical Sciences Lecture

A recording of a live talk and Q&A with UCL's Gavin Jell, Associate Professor in Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine, on Nanomedicine: from cancer to COVID-19. This talk explored what nanomedicine is, the advantages nanotechnologies offer in the treatment and diagnosis of disease, and future challenges. Nanotechnology in medicine could involve employing nanoparticles to deliver drugs, heat, light or other substances to specific types of cells (such as cancer cells). This technique reduces damage to healthy cells in the body and allows for earlier detection of disease. Dr Jell’s research group is interested in understanding the nanoparticle (particle of matter that is between 1 and 100 nanometres in diameter) and biological interactions that occur when they are injected into the body, and how to direct these interactions so they get to the sites where we want them (and avoid accumulation at sites we don’t).
