To see the clips of the BRAND NEW AUSTRALIND DMU RAILCAR, skip to 55:09! From Saturday the 27th of September to Saturday the 4th of October 2025, the 2025 Perth Royal Show was held. With the Ellenbrook Line now open, Showgrounds express services would not have been able to fit in-between other trains. As a result, they through-ran to and from Ellenbrook, but in order to keep the maximum capacity, they had to run 6-car sets which skipped the shorter platforms along the Ellenbrook Line. This meant that on the weekends and Monday (King’s Birthday public holiday), all Ellenbrook Line trains operated on an ‘E’ pattern, running all stations from Ellenbrook to Bayswater, then running express to East Perth, then express to Perth, and then continuing on express to Showgrounds. These trains surprisingly actually had the announcements programed in them for this pattern. Originally, all Ellenbrook Line trains on weekdays were also scheduled to run this pattern, but this was later changed to only off-peak times due to a lack of railcars. It was then further reduced to only after 10PM… On Saturday the 4th of October, there is also a stadium event being held, meaning that the Showgrounds express trains will end early to accommodate for the extra services required for the stadium. This will make it one of Transperth’s busiest days and worst days for railcar availability. Nonetheless, this period of time marked the first time 6-car trains were operating on the Ellenbrook Line since the opening day, and also the first day ever that they ran scheduled services stopping at East Perth Station. Unfortunately, there were only 6-car B-Series operating, despite this being a perfect opportunity for a 6-car A-Series on the Ellenbrook Line, or even a C-Series operating, which would have been the first time a C-Series ran in passenger service between Bayswater and Perth and on the Fremantle Line. However, there are some restrictions on them operating in these sections so this did not occur. In this video we ride the first through-running service, which was also the first Showgrounds express for 2025, departing Ellenbrook Station at 9:04AM. After this, we go and have a first look at the BRAND NEW AUSTRALIND RAILCAR DMU which was transferred to Perth Station platform 3 at 3:30AM in the morning. This train is basically a 3-car diesel version of the C-Series, which will be used to operate the Australind service between Perth and Bunbury when it resumes operating early next year. At around 3PM this train ran was hauled between Perth and Perth Stadium and back which I unfortunately missed. Tomorrow (Sun 28 Sep), it will run to Byford. Following this, we also take a look at the extra W pattern services running on the Yanchep and Mandurah Lines, before going to East Perth station to see the 6-cars stopping there, take a few clips at Mt Lawley, Maylands and Meltham of the 6-cars passing through, and then finishing the video at Whiteman Park Station where I then hopped onto the tram at the Perth Electric Tramway Society which I am a part of and drive regular for. On the King’s Birthday public holiday (Monday 29 Sep), we will be running three trams, so come and check it out if you have time!
