As such, Chief White Antelope fought the Kiowas, Apaches and Comanches, in the 1820s. He then negotiated peace with those tribes, in 1840, at Two Buttes Creek in today’s southeast Colorado. Chief White Antelope played an important role in the peace efforts by Chief Black Kettle and Major Wynkoop. He spoke at length during the Camp Weld Council, which took place seven weeks before the "Sand Creek Massacre", where Chief White Antelope was murdered. "I saw the bodies of those lying there.. cut all to pieces.., worse mutilated.. than any I ever saw before. The women.. cut all to pieces, with knives.., scalped.., their brains knocked out.., children two or three months old.., all ages lying there.., from sucking infants.. up to warriors.
