Fire destroys Jasper County Church

JASPER COUNTY-by Kara Dixon Members of Throne Room Ministries Church use Farm to Market Road 252 every Sunday and Wednesday to attend services. The church's parking lot is usually packed with vehicles belonging to the congregation. Today, the parking lot was filled with investigators from all across the state searching for the cause of a fire that destroyed the church. "It's heartbreaking because it's a church. It's a part of the community," said Lieutenant Investigator Cal Morgan with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office. Investigators said a call came in around 5:30 Thursday evening about the church in flames. When deputies arrived, they found the Throne Room Ministries fully engulfed. It took about 90 minutes for firefighters to put out the fire. On Friday, investigators from local, state, and federal agencies began looking through the rubble,trying to find out what started the fire. "Anytime there's a church, we have to look into it more," said Morgan. Pastor David Hunt said the church is small and only has about 30 members. He said he's devastated by the disaster. "It's just a time for the community and church to pray and believe in God," said Hunt. While investigators search for the cause, Hunt said the congregation is coming together to support one another. "They've been calling to give me encouraging words so, it's just going to be basically like who were are, family. We're going to stick together no matter what," said Hunt.
