On October 30th, 2024, Station 45 along with mutual aid units were dispatched to Zinck Road in Mifflin Township (Box 45-5) for a working structure fire. Shortly after dispatch, Lycoming County Communications reported possible entrapment. Engine 4-45 responded with a crew of 5, followed shortly thereafter by Rescue 45 and Brush 45. A member of Station 45 as well as MICU 94 were first to arrive on scene and confirmed entrapment. Chief 1-94 established command and requested a second alarm and second ALS unit. Engine 4-45 arrived on scene and split their crew, committing two to search and two to fire suppression. Two handlines were deployed; one to side "A" where the bulk of the fire was visible, and a second to side "C" to support the search. The search crew attempted entry via a side "C" door but was met with heavy fire conditions. They were then able to perform VES via a side "C" bedroom window where an unconscious victim was located. The victim was removed with assistance from the Rescue 45 and Brush 45 crew which arrived a few minutes behind the Engine. Care was handed over to the MICU 94 crew. The bulk of the fire was knocked down within approximately 10 minutes of arrival, at which point mutual aid units began to arrive and assist with overhaul. Our deepest condolences go out to the victim's family. This video is meant to serve as educational content, showing the importance of aggressive fire attack and a rapid search of all tenable space.
