Bishop Ralph Donnell Graves was born July 27, 1954 to the union of the late Evangelist Annie Graves Hairston and the late Ralph Julius Graves. He is the grandson of the renowned "Pulpit Princess", the late Dr. Lettie P. Cohen. Bishop Graves accepted his call to ministry in 1972 at the age of 17. He delivered his initial sermon November 1972 entitled, "Who's Who". He was ordained in the Southern District Convocation of the United Holy Church of America, September 1976 under the leadership of the late Bishop J. A. Forbes, Sr. Bishop Graves organized the Deliverance Temple of Truth Holy Churches, Inc. September 4, 1978 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was consecrated to the office of Bishop in the Lord's Church, March 2, 1980 by the late Bishop Sylvester Webb, the late Bishop William Caldwell, and the late Bishop N. M. Midgett (deterred by in climate weather). He was consecrated Chief Apostle of Deliverance Temple, 1992 by the Bishop Fredrick Patterson and the Bishop Freddy Washington. Bishop Graves organized the Refreshing Springs Restoration Center, Rocky Mount, NC, December, 1981 of which he serves as local pastor. Upon the leading of the Holy Spirit, he relocated his residence from Fayetteville, NC to Greensboro, NC. January, 1994, he organized the Greater Metropolitan Restoration Center, Greensboro, NC of which he serves as local pastor. Bishop Ralph "Donnie" Graves graduated from the John Motley Morehead High School, June 1972. He received the Bachelor of Science in Organ & Sacred Music, 1976, Winston-Salem State University. He received the Master of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary, 2000. He graduated with his Doctorate in Ministry from the Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Ga. on May 16, 2004. Bishop Graves is a member of the Joint College of Afro-American Pentecostal Bishops under the leadership of the Bishop J. Delano Ellis. He is also a member of the American Guild of Organists. Bishop "Donnie" Graves began his music ministry at age 4. He received his formal music training under the late Dr. Alton Thompson, R. Duane Best, Dr. Lee Beall, and many other university professors. He was greatly inspired and influenced by the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark who mentored him as her adopted son. Bishop Graves is the composer of such gospel hits as: "Count Your Blessings", "I'm Saved", "When All God's Children Get Together", "Talk to God" and many more. He has incorporated his gospel music influence with his classical music influence causing him to write and arrange majestic hymn anthems such as: "When Morning Gilds the Skies", "Rejoice Ye Pure In Heart", "A Mighty Fortress" and many others.
