The FreeScan UE Pro is a compact handheld device that embraces 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry technologies. Developed by the renowned Chinese company, the scanner can capture highly detailed geometry on large objects, which makes it a powerful tool for industries such as energy and utilities, mechanical engineering, automotive, aerospace, railway and many others. The Pro model is the next step in the FreeScan UE series: it offers an enhanced user experience and metrology-grade performance, with the device weighing only 29 ounces, or 840 grams. A photogrammetry module paired with a blue laser light source increases scanning speed and data accuracy even when working with large-scale objects. The FreeScan UE Pro is designed to tackle challenges faced by professionals in quality control, reverse engineering, additive manufacturing and design customization. Thanks to the built-in photogrammetry module, the user can do without coded markers: the scanner comes with dedicated scale bars that secure high volumetric accuracy when used in conjunction with photogrammetry in the scanning process. The overall accuracy of the FreeScan UE Pro can reach two hundredths of a millimeter. The device boasts a scanning speed of 1,850,000 points per second, capturing an area of 600x550 millimeters, at a depth of field from 170 to 680 millimeters. Depending on the engaged scan mode, the working distance can vary from 200 to 300 millimeters. The 3D scanner has three main operation modes: fast scanning of large objects using a grid of thirteen cross laser lines, high-precision scanning with five parallel laser lines, and capturing deep cuts and hard-to-reach surfaces with a single laser line. The FreeScan UE Pro can scan objects with dark, shiny and reflective surfaces, eliminating the need for matting spray and speeding up the work-flow. In the upper module, the device houses the working distance LED indicators as well as navigation and scanning buttons, while the data is transferred to the computer via a USB 3.0 connection. The scanner runs on Shining 3D’s proprietary software with automatic updates to include new functions and tools. Generated digital models can be easily exported into any mainstream computer-aided design and geometry control software, including Solid Edge, Geomagic Control X and Design X, Verisurf Inspect, Rhino.
