Good morning everyone and welcome to today's UK weather forecast on Wednesday 14th December 2022. Current Situation: A large blocking area of high pressure is continuing to bring a spell of freezing cold weather... Today: Wednesday begins dry but very cold and icy across much of the country but we have got heavy snow showers in the north and around coasts. It's been very cold overnight with temperatures dropping to -10C or lower over some of the snow fields in the north. Through the rest of the day further snow showers continue in the north and around coasts while an area of sleet or snow could effect thr south west for a time too. Most places will stay dry with bright or sunny spells and areas of cloud. A very cold day with temperatures ranging from -4C to +3C. Tonight: More snow showers for Scotland and down the eastern coasts but most places will have a dry night with clear spells, variable cloud and a few freezing fog patches. A bitterly cold night with a widespread, severe frost as temperatures fall to -4C to -12C across the country. Tomorrow: Snow showers become lighter in the north but will continue in a few places. Elsewhere the majority of the country becomes dry with bright or sunny spells. Another very cold day with temperature staying around freezing all day in most places. Outlook: Friday: A band of snow pushes eastwards across the north while the south stays dry. Very cold. Saturday: Snow turning more towards sleet and rain in the north while the south remains dry. Less cold in the south. Sunday: A band of rain, sleet and snow pushing eastwards on Saturday night followed by more heavy rain.
