Director General of Police (DGP), L R Bishnoi, today informed that the attack on the chief minister’s meeting with ACHIK leaders at CMO Tura on Monday was pre-planned and it was aimed at harming Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. He also informed that police have seized a substantial number of incriminating materials from the place of occurrence, indicating that the whole incident was pre planned, and there was a conspiracy to attack the chief minister, and cause physical damage to him. “So far we have seized weapons such as bamboo sticks, and other materials, including a vehicle full of kerosene oil,” the DGP said. “The persons or groups involved in creating violence at CMO Tura have been identified and they will soon be behind the bars,” Bishnoi said, adding that at least 25 perpetrators had been identified . He informed that extra forces have been deployed to arrest the conspirators, and also monitor the law-and-order situation in the area. Bishnoi said that the situation is under control, and the CRPF and Meghalaya police are taking stock of the situation and conducting roads at various places to nab the culprits. The DGP said a total of 18 persons were injured, amongst 10 Meghalaya police personnel, 7 were from CRPF and 1 home guard. Police are on the hunt police conducting consistent raids and IGP law and order sent to Tura. He said a total of 21 vehicles were damaged of which 4 were burnt down while 17 were damaged due to pelting of stones. Meanwhile, in a quick breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the attack on the chief minister’s meeting with ACHIK leaders as 19 people including TMC leader Richard Marak have been arrested, two BJP Mahila Morcha women who provoked the crowds are also on the run. Bishnoi said Marak was arrested as he played a role in provoking the crowd and he was also found distributing cash.
