In fact, each Juvederm and Restylane were the original filler produced by 2 different companies. Allergan makes Botox and the Juvederm family of fillers, which includes Juvederm (Ultra, XC, Ultra Plus), Volbella, Vollure, and Voluma. Galderma makes Dysport (a Botox alternative) and the Restylane family of fillers, which includes Restylane, Lyft (formerly Perlane), Silk, Refyne, and Defyne. Restylane and Juvederm are very similar products. They are both: Made from hyaluronic acid Dermal fillers used to add volume or smooth out wrinkles Medium-firm dermal fillers (they’re kind of in the middle in terms of firmness, with Silk/Volbella at the “almost-liquid” end of the spectrum, and Voluma/Lyft at the “mimics bone” end of the spectrum) They can be injected with a normal needle OR a cannula, depending on where and how they’re being used However, they are different in 1 very key way: Restylane does not attract or hold onto extra water molecules in the way Juvederm does. As Dr. Ellern explains in the video, holding onto water gives Juvederm a plumping effect, which is great for lips, but would be awful under the eyes. Restylane is more of a “what you see is what you get” filler, which makes it better for precision placements and injections where the skin is thinner. _________________________________________________________________ To see Dr. Ellern for a free consultation, please call 732-356-1666.
