This mission was a freediving trip exploring Goat Island Marine Reserve in New Zealand, one of the country’s most famous protected dive sites known for its clear water, kelp forests, and huge schools of snapper. The conditions were perfect for diving, with calm seas and great visibility revealing large snapper cruising through the kelp forests and sand beds around the reef. Goat Island is famous for its abundant marine life thanks to decades of protection, and diving here offers a rare chance to experience New Zealand’s coastal ecosystem in its natural state. From dense kelp forests to open sand beds full of reef life, this dive captures the incredible underwater world that exists just off the coastline.
