The Churchill Way Flyovers are a pair of concrete flyovers built in the 1960s and opened in 1970, carrying A57 traffic in the centre of Liverpool. The flyovers were closed in September 2018 for urgent inspection of their condition to take place, and it was confirmed in February 2019 that there were serious structural issues and that the flyovers would not be re-built. Re-building at 2019 costs would be £60m, with demolition costing £5.7m. The problems with the structures include: rotting internal wooden frame as a result of water ingress corroded metal supports as a result of being too close to the surface of the concrete. flyover heavier than anticipated as in several places mold had become broken during construction, leading to void space filling with concrete joint failure over-stress in the construction The demolition process commenced on 2nd September 2019 and this is what remains to this day. and if you would like to buy me a coffee here is the link https://buymeacoffee.com/g2emediag all money goes back into the channel and of course on hot drinks....cheers #liverpool #merseyside #urbex
