Apex Body Warns Administration Against Harassment, Seeks Release of Detainees Leh: The Apex Body Leh has expressed concern over the continuing tense situation in Ladakh following the September 24 incident, saying that despite appearances of normalcy, restrictions under Section 163 remain in place and the atmosphere is far from calm. In a press conference, the Apex Body accused the administration of harassing local gobas (village headmen), who hold an important cultural and community role. The leaders warned that such actions amount to an “attack on Ladakh’s traditional institutions” and could further inflame public anger. They said that continued police questioning and detention of community leaders will not help restore peace and urged the administration to release those still in jail. “Normalcy cannot return through intimidation. The questioning of gobas is unjust, they did not instigate protests but only performed their duty of communicating with villagers,” the statement said. Referring to climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who remains in Jodhpur Central Jail under the Public Safety Act (PSA), the Apex Body said his brother and legal counsel recently met him and confirmed that he is in good health. Wangchuk has conveyed that he will continue to stay in jail until an independent judicial probe into the killings is initiated. The Apex Body reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing peaceful struggle for Sixth Schedule status and Statehood for Ladakh and called on the government to take sincere steps toward restoring stability and trust in the region.
