Day 1 – Icicle Divide Trail: Hatchery Creek to Lake Augusta The trail register read, "The worst hike of my life" and honestly, they weren’t wrong. This was hands-down the hardest, most grueling hike I’ve ever done. Brutally steep, relentlessly exposed, and absolutely unforgiving. I can say I’ve done it… but I can also say I’ll never do it again. If you're looking for solitude, though, this route delivers. Most people avoid it for good reason, and by the time you reach Lake Augusta, you’ll understand why. Take a different approach if you can. But if you’re stubborn, bring grit, plenty of water, and low expectations.
