D4GX 2019 Immersion Fellowship Program: City of Bogotá

Each year, Bloomberg's Data for Good Exchange (D4GX) Immersion Fellowship Program embeds data science Ph.D. students from universities in a not-for-profit or city government for a short period of time to see how they can use their statistical and data science skills to help their partner(s) develop a data strategy or explore ways to utilize their existing data more effectively. In this presentation of one of 2019’s four Immersion Projects, Xavier Ignacio Gonzalez of Columbia University’s Data Science Institute joins Tatiana Mendoza from the City of Bogotá’s Public Procurement team and Bloomberg Associates’ Rose Gill Hearn and Giuliana Carducci. Together, they detail work done with the City of Bogotá, in partnership with Bloomberg Associates’ Municipal Integrity Team, to implement an online Public Works Tracker that will give city managers and citizens access to synthesized information about local infrastructure projects. This platform will also allow them to provide feedback, with the goal of empowering citizens and bringing transparency to local government.
