Convicted of four murders and accused of cannibalism, Marc Sappington wanted a new trial. On Friday, the Kansas Supreme Court said no. Sappington accused the prosecutor of misconduct and was upset over autopsy photos used during trial. KMBC's Chris Nagus spoke with the family of Alton Brown, who was 16 when he was killed in 2001. "If he had lived, he would have made something out of himself, but his life was cut short," said Theressa Loggins, Alton's grandmother. Loggins said she still doesn't understand why Sappington killed her grandson. "It just didn't have to be; it really didn't. It's hard," Loggins said. Alton was found in the basement of a home in Kansas City, Kan. His legs and arms were cut off. At the time, neighbors said they thought Sappington wanted to be like Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial killer known for eating his victims. "He said he wanted to go out like a legend," one neighbor said in 2001. Brown wasn't the only victim. Terry Green, Michael Weaver Jr. and David Mashak were also killed. Mashak was found slain inside his auto business; the others were found in cars.
