The Day One Doula Collective in Grand Rapids provides community-based doula services to women of color, addressing the disparities in maternal health. Representation and understanding are crucial in improving maternal health outcomes for black women. Doulas play a significant role in advocating for pregnant women and providing emotional and physical support throughout pregnancy. Medicaid coverage for doula services has been approved in Michigan, expanding access to care. Trust and cultural competence are crucial in improving maternal health outcomes for black women.
