AMH is Anti Mullerian Hormone or Mullerian Inhibiting Substance. This is measured via a blood test on the 2nd or 3 rd day of the cycle. AMH is an index of female fertility. The normal levels of AMH when done in the 2nd or the 3rd day of the cycle is usually between 2 to 4. When the level is less than 2 it is supposed to be called as being reduced and when it is less than 1 we call it as too low AMH and reduced ovarian reserve, when the AMH level is less than 0.5, the woman is supposed to be close to menopause. When the AMH level is close to 4, it is said to be a condition called as polycystic ovaries where there is increased tendency for hyperstimulation or too many follicles grown in the same time when ovulation induction is done with medicines or with tablets or injections. AMH has to be measure d before one decides to practice contraception it will tell us how long they can it before they start trying for pregnancy. When the AMH is low, one has to start trying for pregnancy as early as possible, considering the fact that with every cycle the AMH can start going down and menopause will be around the corner, when the AMH is less than 0.5. the biological clock is ticking in women. Woman has natural destruction of eggs in her system, in every month, every cycle, unlike men. In women w e are born with a fixed number of eggs that is the reason as the age increases the ovarian reserve drops and the ovarian reserve drops to a few hundreds or thousands there is menopause. In some women, the destruction can occur at a faster level and that is the reason why their ovaries age at a faster level. There is nothing that can boost the AMH at a faster level. The only way one can ensure the AMH does not drop down is to do repeated ovulation induction and drop their ovarian reserve. AMH is also reduced because of genetic conditions, autoimmune conditions, or a previous ovarian surgery. AMH drops don n women with endometriosis and that is the reason why we say because of progressive reduction of AMH, one has to plan for pregnancy as early as possible.
