"Smack My Bitch Up" and other banks available at http://microkorger.do.am ! This is an explaining video, showing how this • SMACK MY BITCH UP LIVE on microSAMPLER video was made — people want to know. Hope you like it. I think everything's pretty clear from the video. A couple of people asked me if I used Jim Pavloff samples, so I'll have to write more about it. I really didn't want to use somebody else's stuff, but yes, the snare sound is indeed from Jim Pavloff's version. Now I think I shouldn't have used it, because I had a bunch of good snares in a folder, named "1.wav", "2.wav", "2.wav" and so on (around 15 snares in total), and one of these was taken from Jim Pavloff. A couple of those were mine, others were also taken from somewhere. So I had to pick one good snare I liked and I listened to them and took the Jim Pavloff's one — although others were not bad too. Other sounds that couldn't be sampled from somewhere (like the kick etc) I made myself. The kick (1:15). I took the beginning of a dance kick sample I created with SR Electro Drumset Demo (it's a VST) and added a A# sine bass made with three Operators (that's a built-in synth in Ableton Live). The main drumbeats (1:28 - 1:45) I made myself, although I used Jim Pavloff's snare. I created loops by adding a simple beat in the background — you can barely hear it, but the compressor effect brings it up nicely. Besides, Jim Pavloff's version does not have the drumbeat #2 (1:33). The guitar (1:46) was created using DVS Guitar (it's a VST) and FuzzPlus 2 (distortion plug-in). My sitar sound is also different from Jim Pavloff's version — it's a short loop, because I didn't have much free space in the bank, I couldn't use a longer sample. Jim Pavloff's samples are really great, but I don't really like his lead sound. It's too dirty in my opinion. I created my own lead with a microKORG XL. Sounds like the "wow", "like this", the bassline or the vocals sound like Jim's because that's, probably, the only way they can sound — close to the original! It's not that hard to recreate them. When you say I stole them from Jim it's like saying he stole then from Liam haha! But, anyway, that's how I made it — only the snare from Jim's version, but I think I should have replaced it with my own, 'cause I had some pretty good snares. I might even change the snare in the available for download bank at http://microkorger.do.am . I don't think that's a big deal though. Besides, Jim Pavloff didn't explain how to create the intro that I made haha! I didn't make the video before Jim Pavloff because I wasn't so interested in The Prodigy then (and I didn't have skills). I was more interested in other genres of music (you can see that from my earlier videos). I tried working on a Smack My Bitch Up cover around a year ago, but it sounded awful, so I dropped it. I didn't want to release a cover of the biggest hit if I knew it sounded lame. Although I still have an old version, which is really bad. Of course I see it too — there's a good tutorial and then there's my cover. I'm not saying I discovered the samples myself or was the first to recreate the track! Respect to Jim Pavloff and also this guy • How was done Smack my bitch up-HQ version (amazing concept, truly brilliant!) P.S. I think it's pretty cool that both me and Jim Pavloff are from Ukraine. Go Ukraine!
