Join us on a splendid summer day in Corpus Christi, Texas, as we once again meet the "Blue Ghost," the illustrious USS Lexington. This legendary aircraft carrier, feared by invaders during World War II, played pivotal roles in multiple critical battles across the Pacific Theater. Now resting as a museum, the USS Lexington continues to inspire and educate with its storied past and heroic feats. ---------------- The USS Lexington, CV-16, is a revered icon of American naval history. Launched in 1942, this Essex-class aircraft carrier was a formidable presence in the Pacific during World War II. It earned the nickname "The Blue Ghost" from Tokyo Rose herself, who erroneously reported the ship sunk multiple times, only for it to reappear in battle, seemingly back from the dead. The USS Lexington participated in nearly every major operation in the Pacific Theater, making significant contributions to the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, among others. It was during these fierce battles that Lexington's air groups destroyed hundreds of enemy aircraft and inflicted heavy damage on enemy shipping and ground installations. Post-war, the Lexington underwent several modifications and continued to serve during the Cold War before it was decommissioned in 1991. Today, docked at Corpus Christi, it serves as a museum dedicated to preserving naval aviation history and educating the public about the sacrifices made by those who serve in the U.S. Navy. Today, the USS Lexington rests proudly as a museum ship in Corpus Christi, Texas, where visitors can explore her expansive flight deck, bridge, hangar bays, and exhibits that detail her rich history. Each visit offers a poignant reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who served aboard this iconic vessel.
